Pictured is Graham’s engine when it arrived at our workshop after having been not used for some 20 years

After finishing the 412 engine Graham dropped off his old race engine which hadn’t been run for 20 odd years to be rebuilt for another speedway car project. Even though this engine had been kept out of the weather the inside of the engine was covered in a sticky brown glue-like composite which we can only put down as the oil/methanol breakdown. Surprisingly after hot tanking all the components and a lot of hand preparation most of the components came up very well. Again we bored and honed the block and fitted new Ross forged pistons with a larger dome to increase the compression ratio. The Carrillo conrods were still sized like new and a re-balance because of the lighter pistons had the bottom end sorted. The old -8 Brodix heads reconditioned nicely with some new Ferrea valves and Isky spring/retainer package along with an improved custom roller cam grind had the 355 chev in better shape than ever before. This engine will use a magneto ignition system and with another custom carburettor ordered and it will be ready to run.
